Alumia’s Educational Service will promote guided tours

A territory always acquires the character of those who live in it. The ability of a Historic Centre to remain long term conforms to its present and future statement, as a universal host place, where we all fit and where everyone can and should create their own experience, adding History and stories to a centre that not only made but also wants to keep on making History.

This will be the premise behind the activities that will be carried out within the Educational Service of ALUMIA project and with which i tis intended to cause new looks and new reflections on the territory classified by UNESCO.

Therefore, the proposals will be aimed to all publics and will be able to set several challenges, to know more (LEARN), explore (DISCOVER) and produce new records and new reflections (MAKE) on the Historic Centre of Porto. These will always have their starting point on the program contents developed for each of the three scheduled moments: December 2016; March 2017; and June 2017.

The starting point will necessarily be the historic, architectural, natural and social Heritage of the Historic Centre, but also the influence of the artistic contents within the programme of ALUMIA.

The main goal will be to create a close relation of complicity with the different publics and contexts that walk through the Historic Centre daily, as they live/work there or because they visit occasionally or often it.

The main goal will be to create a close relation of complicity with the different publics and contexts that walk through the Historic Centre daily, as they live/work there or because they visit occasionally or often it.

The contents to be developed will be suggested under a perspective of curiosities and knowledge sharing, with cross-cutting approaches to the light topic, in its whole spectrum, and its relationship with the stated artistic, architectural, historic and citizenship aspects occurring within the Historic Centre.

GUIDED TOURS AND WORKSHOPS AS MAIN PILLARS
In this context several activities will be fostered within the Educational Service, which will be based on two main pillars: guided tours and tours with workshops open to the public.

This offer aims to suit, organize and encourage a wide and effective participation, in a relationship that intends to acknowledge and value the historic and cultural heritage of the Historic Centre of Porto, including its agents, both inhabitants and visitors.

The goal is to establish a relationship with the attending public with a set of artistic interventions whose common aspects are the city as a living stage and the light as conceptualization, symbolic and plastic exploration. Thus, both tour guides and workshops create circumstances for the interaction and the mediation with the pieces and their context, offering a conceptual and material framework as well as an orientation to sustainable action by the participants that can shape their ideas.

The orientation and support material and technical means will be provided.

The tours are free and open to the general public, with required registration, up to 30 participants. The workshops allow a maximum of 20 participants.

WORKSHOPS: The workshops will take place from routes established by city heritage landmarks and the artistic interventions in the public space of the Historic Centre of the city, which are included in the programme.
The goal is to (re)acknowledge both the pieces and the city surroundings, creating moments of dialogue and experimentation when searching for new readings and perspectives.

GUIDED TOURS: The Guided Tours expected for this first programme moment will follow a route that is mapped by the artistic interventions in the public space of the Historic Centre of the city.
The walk through the Historic Centre is an invitation to discussion, where there is a search for senses, directions and relationships between the participants, the city and the exhibited works. The goal is to raise new and renewed looks over the city and its heritage under the Light of the lived experience.
