Along with the numerous programme moments that will occur in the city centre on December 5th within ALUMIA project, the Municipality of Porto will also promote several initiatives to celebrate the Historic Centre as World Heritage by UNESCO.
One of these initiatives scheduled for December 5th at 18:30, at Seminário Maior Library, is the book release “Porto Património Mundial – 20 anos|20 imagens” (Porto World Heritage – 20 years|20 images”, which will be presented by Rui Moreira, Mayor of Porto.
As a result of a partnership between the Municipality and the Portuguese Mint (Imprensa Nacional Casa da Moeda – INCM), the book presents a set of photographs of the Historic Centre, captured by 20 national photographers, as well as texts by Álvaro Domingos (Geographer and Professor at FAUP), Gaspar Martins Pereira (Historian and Professor at FLUP) and Manuel Carvalho (Journalist and main writer of Público Newspaper). It is translated into English and French and is for sale at INCM shops for 20 euros.
After the book release and also at Seminário Maior Library a debate chaired by Steve Bloomfield, the Executive editor of Monocle magazine, will take place at 19:00, with several international guests. The topic will be the World Heritage.
Finally at 22:00, the Arabic Lounge of Bolsa Palace will host a festive concert, named ”Al-Mu’tamid, Rei Poeta do Al Andaluz”. The artistic project integrates several Portuguese, Spanish and Morrocan musicians, who have composed original themes from poems by Al-Mu’tamid, who was the most brilliant Iberian-Arabic poet of the 11th century.
The themes will be sung in the languages of all three countries that currently integrate the geographic territory with the greatest influence of Al-Andalus, Portugal, Spain and Morocco, thus reviving the values of a cultural heritage that justifies longevity with the diversity of peoples and cultures, traditions and costumes, religions and cults.
